Welcome to Rauðasandur/Rauðisandur
From the cache location you will have a beautiful view over this marvellous area. When the weather is nice and clear you may even see Snæfellsnesjökull to the south.
When you are done logging the cache, here is some inspiration:
Once you are down in the valley, you may turn to the left and drive to the camping/parking. From there you my walk on the sandy beach - However, depending on tide and season you may have to wade through some shallow water.
When you turn right in the valley, however, you will reach a very beautfiul church.
Also you may wonder why this place is sometimes referred to as Rauðasandur and sometimes as Rauðisandur. There is actually some dispute going on about this. Both names make actually perfect sense:
Rauðasandur: Some say - in short - that the place is named after a person with the name Rauði and due to the icelandic grammar (I am not going in any details here) this turns into Rauða when it is combined with the word sandur.
Rauðisandur: Translated to english that just means "red sand" which - of course - applies perfectly to the beach here.
Well I guess neither you nor I are/were here to judge which name is the correct one :-) Just enjoy the place.
