This cache is located inside the Assiniboine Park Zoo and an entrance fee is required. Summer hours: Open at 9:00 AM and gates close at 4:30 PM. Winter hours: Open at 9:00 AM, and gates close at 3:30 PM. Please respect our plants and animals at the zoo.
Pollinators... Here at our zoo we have many species that play a role in the ecosystem as pollinators or as seed dispersers. Not only do pollinators play an important role in the ecosystem, they also help our economy as one-third of the food we eat relies on pollinators. Our pollinators include bats, birds, and the Kinkajou at Toucan Ridge.
Assiniboine Park Zoo is helping the endangered prairie butterfly, the Poweshiek Skipperling, with our “Head-Start Project.” This project is about collecting and rearing eggs in a protected environment before releasing the young into the wild. We also have working bee hives on the zoo grounds and the Shirley Richardson Butterfly Garden, a seasonal exhibit, which houses tropical butterflies from Costa Rica. Our outdoor butterfly garden is recognized as a Monarch Waystation, and is designed to attract native butterflies.
Meet our animals:
The kinkajou is a nocturnal animal, so if you visit Carlita in Toucan Ridge, you will likely see her sleeping. She was born in 2001 and is currently the only kinkajou in an accredited North American Zoo.
