The mosaic was made by renowned indigenous artist Gordon Hookey of Melbourne in 2002 in collaboration with the local indigenous people. The commission was funded by an Australian Council for the Arts grant and has been placed overlooking the mill hole, home of the legendary rainbow serpent. This is No24 in the Open Air Gallery.
Walcha's Open Air Gallery is made up of sculptures and artworks scattered throughout the town and created by local, national and international artists. With many individuals working together, Walcha has become a special place on Australia's cultural map.
