AR_Urban Art Island Mystery Cache

This cache has been archived.

Geocaching HQ Admin: From June 06, 2018 until March 06, 2019, Geocaching HQ conducted an Augmented Reality (AR) experiment. During that time, cache owners were allowed to submit Mystery Caches that required the finder to download and use an AR app to find the cache. The goal of the experiment was to see how the geocaching community would use AR technology. Cache owners placed more than 600 AR caches around the world!

Unfortunately, the AR apps which met HQ’s requirements for the experiment have been or are currently in the process of being discontinued. As a result, it is currently not possible for finders to have the AR experience that was originally intended. Therefore, HQ has decided to archive all active AR caches placed during the experiment period. We are respectfully requesting that all AR cache owners please remove the cache container and contents as soon as possible.

As technology evolves, we look forward to seeing how Augmented Reality might have future applications for geocaching. Thank you to all cache owners who participated in the experiment!

Geocache Description:

I decided to get one more AR Cache out there before our time was up, so here is one using the HP Reveal App! ***THIS HAS CHANGED, READ BELOW*** I love all the urban art one can find in this area and around downtown, so thought this would be a good place to bring other cachers. Note, what you see on the cache page may not be what you see at GZ!

This Urban Art Island was dedicated on August 12, 1989 to honor the memory of Arthur P. "Hap" Veltman, Jr., an enthusiastic visionary for downtown and River Walk development, which also included "The Strip," where you now find yourself, on North St. Mary's Street and The Blue Star Art Complex on South Alamo Street. Sculptures on the island, titled "Cor-Linche Triad," were donated by sculptor Michael Bigger.

This cache is a part of the Geocaching experiment of AR(Augmented Reality) caches.

CACHE INSTRUCTIONS

Soooo... this AR experience used to be on the HP Reveal App, but they ended that service and deleted all the auras. In an effort to keep this cache going, and give people a similar experience but without the HP Reveal App, I decided to place a QR Code near the location of the information plaque. Facing the plaque, look to the left where you will find the back of a one-way sign. There you will find the QR code. Scan that code with any QR reading app (many phones will now read with their camera app) and enjoy the experience!

Good luck and have fun!

The above mentioned sign is currently unavailable as they are doing some construction on the road here. So, for now, you can access the QR code here!
