About SideTracked Caches
This cache belongs to the SideTracked series. It is not designed to take you to a magical place with a breath taking view. It’s a distraction for the weary traveler, but anyone else can go and find it, too. More Information can be found at the SideTracked Website: https://wwww.sidetrackedseries.info
While exploring the adjacent area, I discovered this little gem right in the middle of the Village of Horseheads, NY. Having recently listened to a podcast on SideTracked caches, I believed that this would qualify for such a designation. Speaking with the proper authorities, I was granted the necessary approval to place a cache here and the designation.
The friendly, nearby establishment has limited hours, but welcomes visitors. Please take the opportunity to do so! (Tues, Thurs and Sat 12:00PM -> 3:00PM)
The present building was built in 1866 after a fire destroyed the original. It served 4 passenger railroads until it was closed in 1956 when competition from other modes of transportation forced it to do so. It then served various functions until September 18, 1999 when the present, fully functional Horseheads Museum at the Depot was dedicated. You are encouraged to visit to partake of its many resources.
