Geocache Description:

I Am Going To Try To Include More Geology Than History Since This Is An Earthcache But This Is A Spot That Is So Exciting To Learn About! In This Earthcache You Will Get To Learn About Dolostone! Dolostone Is A Very Common Sedimentary Rock Type. Dolostone Is A Hard Resistant Rock Created From Calcium Magnesium Carbonate CaMg(CO3). The Original Deposit Was Limestone Made Of Calcium Carbonate Overtime Dolomation Has Replaced The Calcium Ions With the Magnesium Ions. Dolostone And Limestone Are Very Simlar, Except Limestone Will Bubble When A Weak Acid Is Applied. One Downside Of Dolomization Is The Fact That Any Fossils In The Original Limestone Are Mostly Lost.

History: This Is The Location Of Manitoulin's Swing Bridge. Originally A Train Bridge But Is Now Turned Into A Car Bridge. It is One Of The 2 Ways To Access Manitoulin Island.

1. At The Posted Coordinates Should Be A Lookout Area. Behind You Should Be A Rock Wall Made Of Blocks Of Dolostone. What Mix Of 2 Colors Are The Rocks Here

2. Do The Rocks Have Holes In Them

3. (Optional) Take A Picture Of You And The Swing Bridge!

All Info Was Taken From the Book, Geology And Landforms Of Grey And Bruce Counties.
