This cache is one of eight leaf themed caches that were published on the morning of 9/22 for the CCLP's Leaf Olympics. Each cache page contains either fun leaf facts, a leaf anecdote from a member of the CCLP, or a brief history of the cache's location. Prospective prize winners will be required to find all eight caches, procure the secret letter contained within, and spell an event themed word in order to win a spin on the CCLP's fantastical Prize Wheel...Wheel...Wheel!!!
Believe it or not, West College Corner was once a thriving town. In the Age of Rail, you would not have recognized it. The town buildings were all in their prime and a beautiful boardwalk area sat around the rail station that would have been on your left side as you drive down Brookville Pike towards the Olympic venue. Today it is just a pot hole addled, dirt and gravel lot. Back then, hundreds of more people lived here as well. In 1935, long after the rail stop ceased and people moved on, a gunfight took place here!! This new historical marker, one of two in West College Corner, tells about this fateful event. The cache can be found after solving a simple puzzle based on the information on the sign. The other historical marker in town marks the historic landmark College Corner Elementary School which is unique in that the state line runs right down the middle of the school( you are in the borderlands after all). A basketball player can start with the ball in Ohio and score a basket in Indiana!
