The HaiKung is a fishery test vessel invested and built by the Fisheries Research Institute of the Executive Committee of the Republic of China.
The Executive Yuan and the National Science Council and other units jointly invested 30 million NTD to build the Hai Kung test ship. Launched on July 12, 1975, and maiden voyage on December 24, 1975, Hai Kung conducted a survey of fishing grounds in northern Taiwan. It went to the Antarctic to explore the Antarctic shrimp fishery resources 4 times. The first time was in December 1976, crossing The Indian Ocean, through the Cape Town of South Africa to the Southern Ocean, but the vessel equipment is completely unsuitable for sailing in the Antarctic Ocean. The return journey brought back more than 130 tons of Antarctic shrimp, allowing Taiwan to master the Antarctic shrimp processing technology, and then the Haigong went to Sancha. In the Antarctic Ocean, it was changed to catch the Antarctic squid. In January 1993, he retired. In 1995, the Taiwan Provincial Government presented the Hai Kung to the Keelung Fisheries Association. In 1998, the Keelung Fisheries Association transferred the Hai Kung to the shore and became an important landmark of the Bisha Fishing Port, setting a proud record for Taiwan.
The Hai Kung carried out a sea trial of up to 53 voyages, which was the most sensational on December 2, 1976, from Keelung to the Antarctic Ocean. This South Pole mission , spent more than four months, and reporters reported with the ship, but only captured a few tons of Antarctic shrimp, never landed in the Antarctic continent.
