I Was Down In Cambridge For A Nice Day Of Caching And Was On My Way To The Devil Made Me Do It Cache With Over 80 Favorate Points. But It Was Way To Slippery Today To Get Up To That One... So I Followed The Trail Up Farther And Noticed This Waterfall... Great Spot For An Earthcache! This Location Is So Much Different From Other Waterfalls As Because Of the Low Amount Of Water, And The Angle Of The Rock. You Get An Amazing View Of The Erosion Going On At This Location. This Is Why Niagara Falls Is Getting Farther And Farther Back. At GZ If You Look Up You Can See The Exact Same Thing! it seems crazy that something as basic as water can affect something as hard as rock.
If You Look Up You Will Notice The Rocks Have Eroded Back. This Is How Many Waterfalls Are Formed. Waterfalls Like Niagara Falls And Many Others Resemble The Same Overhang Style. Just Below That Is A Softer Less Resistant Layer. As The Water Flows Over The Top, The Hard Layer Does Not Erode As Fast. Therefore Creating The Overhang. Now in the bottom part of the waterfall, it encounters a layer of more resistant rock again. This does not erode as easily as the middle portion. The water then flows over the rock surface creating a fan type waterfall. Erosion is still taking place here, but it is more gradual. It has smoothed the rock surface rather than eroding it completely.
