This cache has a bit of unusual history. While Peach was scouting parks and other areas for cache placements for the 2017 Auburn Geocaching Adventure, she ran across a container in place along a rock wall in Mill Pond Park, already made up and labeled, some swag items, a log in a baggie and note telling this is an official geocache. She wasn't sure who might have placed it there, and checked as well as she could if there was a cache pending in that location with some of her contacts at Groundspeak. No information available from anyone. Texted a friend who once had a cache with a similar name to see if he moved it - nope, not him. She made another placement elsewhere in Mill Pond Park (GC7CQ15) that she thought was legal distance from this cache, just in case it ever came up for publication. Earlier this year (2018), while doing cache maintenance on the Mill Pond Park cache, we both checked this area again and the container was still sitting there. So, we took a reading on our phones, as we didn't have our GPS with us. It said we were .1 mile away from nearest cache, but when we got home and started paperwork, it was just a tad too close to our Mill Pond Park cache. So, we thought we could move it slightly from its original placement to where it would be legal distance from our other cache and we went back down and took several readings with our Garmin to average because of tree cover, etc. This placement is legally more than .1 mile away from the other cache, but now you have two caches to find in this park.
Every time we've been to this lovely park, there are ducks swimming around in the pond, and they usually come check you out and see if you have any food for them. If you walk over by the pond, you are sure to see them. When we placed this cache, there was a young girl and family fishing at this pond and she was having a great time, even though she had to throw back a catfish that was too small. It's the thrill of the catch/cache, right? Fishing here is specifically intended for youth age 14 and under, as per signage near the pond. This cache is away from the pond and back on a short spur off the main trail around the park. The trail is handicapped accessible, but getting to this cache is not, so we did not rate it as such.
If you see this cache posted and are the person who tried to make this placement back in 2017, contact us and we will be happy to share ownership with you. We certainly were not trying to take your cache and placement idea, but when no "ownership" could be determined, we wanted this cache to actually become a live cache and not just sit there.
