Este humilladero, al igual que la mayoría de los humilladeros de Cantabria, es una construcción de la segunda mitad del siglo XVIII. Estas construcciones tenían una doble función, la de señalar y proteger los caminos, es decir, era mojón del camino y lugar de devoción, recordatorio de la fragilidad de la vida humana para el peregrino viandante.
