Dette stedet i Vadsø fortjener en cache, ettersom det er Vadsøs fineste plass etter mitt syn. Her var en cache tidligere som ikke ble vedlikeholdt så nå var det på tide med en ny.
Luftskipsmasta ble oppført i 1926, etter å ha blitt bygd på en italiensk militærflyplass, og frakta til Vadsø i mindre deler. Siden har den kun blitt brukt to ganger; til Roald Amundsens ferd over Nordpolen, – og av luftskipet «Italia» og mannskap, som stoppet i Vadsø før en ekspedisjon som endte med havari i polisen i 1928.

Like ved cachen er en gapahuk man kan ta pause om man vil. Geocachen er gjemt sammen med geobarna. Her har cacheeier lekt mye når hun var barn, og hun har vært helt opp i toppen, da stigen ennå var helt på bakken. Det er ikke lov å klatre i masten.

This oil-rig-shaped airship mast on Vadsø island was built in the mid-1920s as an anchor and launch site for airborne expeditions to the polar regions. The expedition of Roald Amundsen, Umberto Nobile and Lincoln Ellsworth, which floated via the North Pole to Alaska in the airship Norge N-1, first used it in April 1926. Two years later it was the launch site for Nobile's airship, Italia, which attempted to repeat the journey but crashed on Svalbard. Amundsen – together with 12 steamships, 13 planes and 1500 men – joined the rescue expedition and disappeared in the attempt, becoming a national martyr as well as a hero.
