Takabashi Bridge is one of five bridges across the Kamejima River (Reiganbashi Bridge, Shin-Kamejimabashi Bridge, Kamejimabashi Bridge, Takabashi Bridge, and Minami-Takabashi Bridge). The name of the bridge is said to originate from the fact that a high bridge (takai hashi in Japanese) was built considering the traffic of ships, as the bridge was hanging over the estuary.
The first erection of the Takabashi Bridge is unknown. In October 1882, it was reconstructed as an iron truss bridge. In 1919, it was reconstructed as a concrete arch bridge. The old parent pillar left in Takabashi Southeast Children's Park is thought to be that of the concrete arch bridge. The current Takabashi Bridge was reconstructed in March 1984.
Today, in the waters between Takabashi Bridge and Minami-Takabashi Bridge, the Kamejima River Mooring and Storage Facility was built on the left bank in 2014, and about 10 vessels are moored. On the right bank, the Kamejima River Green Way was completed in April 2016. You can get off near the waterfront by stairs and slopes, and you can stroll while enjoying the flowers of the four seasons.

高橋は、亀島川に架かる5つの橋（霊岸橋、新亀島橋、亀島橋、高橋、南高橋）の1つです。橋名は、橋が河口に架けられたため、船の通行を考慮して高い橋を架けたことに由来すると言われています。
高橋の初架は不明です。明治15年（1882年）10月に鉄製トラス橋に改架されました。大正8年（1919年）にコンクリートアーチ橋に改架されました。高橋南東児童遊園に残された古い親柱は、このときのものと思われます。現在の高橋は、昭和59年（1984年）3月に改架されました。
現在、高橋と南高橋間の水域には、左岸に亀島川係留保管施設が2014年に設けられ、10隻ほどの船舶が係留されています。右岸には亀島川緑道が2016年4月に完成し、階段やスロープで水辺近くまで降りることができ、四季の草花を楽しみながら散策ができます。
