IN FLANDERS FIELDS
"In World War I, there were three Battles of Ypres over farmland known as the Ypres Salient. At the south of the salient was the Belgian town of Ploegsteert. As Commonwealth troops could not pronounce this name, their soldier-slang of "Plugstreet" was universally accepted. Militarily, three Plugstreet features were of importance -- Plugstreet Road, Plugstreet Wood and the town itself. A microcosm of the features can be seen here. The road in front, the wood to the west, and the church spires of the town to the north."
