Geocache Description:

The beloved and historic Clamshell Railroad transported people, oysters, cranberries and more up and down the Long Beach Peninsula before there were paved roads! Known as the train that ran by the tide table, not by the time table, retrace the whistle stops and learn about the early days of transportation out here at the "end of the road".

The Columbia Pacific Heritage Museum in Ilwaco has a well-restored original passenger car from the Clamshell Railroad, the Nahcotta, which is available for viewing by the public during the museum's annual Clamshell Railroad Days. The Nahcotta may also be viewed at a distance through the wrought-iron fenced surrounding a courtyard on the east wall of the museum. This cache will take you to the very early days of transportation on the Long Beach peninsula, when horses, mules, and stagecoaches were the usual mode of transportation.
