Now for the Cache:

This geocache was placed with the permission and assistance of the City of Cut and Shoot.

The City of Cut and Shoot was incorporated in 1969. Before incorporation, the name of the area was often referred to as:
Cut 'n Shoot, or Cut & Shoot.

But how did the area come by its colorful and somewhat curious name? It's not nearly as violent as it sounds.

William Harley Gandy, who served as the first chairman of the Montgomery County Historical Commission, wrote his Master’s thesis in 1952 - A History of Montgomery County, Texas - while attending the University of Houston. This paper is considered today to be the definitive work on the history of Montgomery County.

Mr. Gandy included in his master's thesis the story how Cut and Shoot was named, and can be read here: The Naming of Cut 'n Shoot.
