The Multi cache in Bangor, ME, "GCB688 - You Sank My Battleship!" by owner brdad, inspired me, to bring to live a bilingual version of it in FFB. In memory of the old time favorite game "Battleship" here is the version in geocaching form. All sections are located within FFB city limits. Coordinates given are same as the center square of grid below. You'll need 2 to 3 hours to aquire the necessary information for this multi, but - if you're lucky - you'll finish it more quickly.
Once you have determined the position of all 3 boats (hereinafter referred as BT), you will need to determine the orientation and do some calculation. Here is all the information you will need to figure the final coordinates:
On the grid (5x5 Matrix), North is "up".
BT-1 is not traveling the same direction as BT-3
BT-3 is more east than PT-2.
All BT boats are either heading north or east.
For translating rows to numbers, A=6; B=7; C=8; D=9; E=0.
The front portion of a BT boat represents the columns (numbers 1-5).
The rear portion of a BT boat represents the rows (numbers 6-0).
Latitude: N48° (BT-2 front minus 1)(BT-1 front minus 1).(BT-2 front)(BT-1 rear)(BT-3 front minus 3)
Longitude: E11° E11 (BT-2 front minus 1)(BT-3 rear minus 4).(BT-1 rear minus 2)(BT-2 rear minus 6)(BT-1 front plus 1)
Below is a modified Battleship game board which consists of a 5X5 grid. Hidden on the grid are 3 BTs, all of which are the ever elusive "2 holed" BT Boats, Named BT-1, BT-2, and BT-3. To find the coordinates of the battleship (final cache), you must first locate these 3 BTs. Once they are located, you will have to do some slight calculations to obtain the coordinates of the final cache.
To fire a shot, simply visit the location of one of the 25 virtual type targets. There are no cache containers at any of these locations. Any that are behind fences or that are off limits for other reasons can be viewed and verified from a distance. Determine if the answer to the question for that location is true or false. If the answer is true, it is a "hit"; if the answer is false it is a "miss". There is no need to go to all 25 locations, but you will need to find all 3 BTs in order to obtain coordinates for the final cache.
