Geocache Description:

A grand 'ole cache be at th' posted coordinates. Plunder by the evil pirates tuppArrrrrrrgurl an' crackArrrrrrrrrjackie an' =Ge-HoJoe= in honor o' th' 2018 Cache Like a Pirate VI (6th Annual) event. Arr, me hearties n'er be findin' th' loot!

To be sentenced to the pillory or stocks was a sentence of public humiliation. A person was secured to the pillory with either chains about the neck, waist, hands, and ankles and forced to remain kneeling or half-crouched or they were secured by the neck and hands in a wooden yoke. Pillories were placed in a public square for all to see.

The pillory was designed to make a person feel great humiliation and not kill them, although people could suffocate in a neck yoke if they lost their footing. People punished in a pillory were often pelted with rotten vegetables or animal waste and very often deadly items, such as rocks or sticks.

It is unlikely that when pirates were punished they were simply sentenced to the pillory; it would be more common for a prate to be beaten and then sentenced to public humiliation by pillory.
