Geocache Description:

The Mendel Polar Station was built in the years 2000–2006 and serves as a Czech research base for scientists and academics from the Masaryk University. Institutions from other countries, such as the Instituto Antártico Argentino, Instituto Nacional Antártico Chileno, British Antarctic Survey, Servicio Meteorológico Nacional Argentina, and Nederlands Instituut voor Ecologie also participate in the research. The station is situated on the Prince Gustav Channel coast in the northern part of the James Ross Island that is not covered by the iceberg. Service is seasonal and is only operated during the Austral summer months from January to March, with about 15 people working at the station. Heating and obtaining drinking water would be difficult outside the summer season due to a well thought-out system of Alternative energy sources used.
