Niles has a small town feel with a rich history in film, considered the first Hollywood.

 

Niles Plaza was dedicated on 12/4/2009 at 2:00-3:00pm. It lies at the heart of Niles. Niles has a rich history in both film and railroad

Film history:

which is considered the first Hollywood. Established in 1850(see website). Also construction of the film studio began in 1913. Many silent films were filmed here in Niles. Among the movie stars here was the first western movie star, Gilbert M. “Broncho Billy” Anderson. Also Charlie Chaplin.

Other History:

Niles was established in the 1850's and was a junction point of the Southern Pacific Railroad lines from Oakland to San Jose and southern coastal points.

Niles at one time was also noted for the location of the California Nursery, the largest nursery in California, with the largest rose plantation in the state.

Today:

Niles has a main street with many places to shop and some great places for food.

Niles also has popular events throughout the year, such as...

the Festival of Lights Parade.
