Geocache Description:

Jackson Hill Night Fright

During the Civil War, Fort Norton occupied the crest of Jackson Hill. Most Civil War forts were primarily earthen fortifications and Rome’s forts were of typical construction. A line of trenches would be dug slightly down slope from the crest of the hill. These trenches connected a series of artillery emplacements known as redoubts. Several Confederate and Union soldiers were killed during skirmishes on and around Jackson Hill and now rest in Myrtle Hill Cemetery.

To begin this night cache, park and proceed to the posted coordinates where you will find a dirt road leading to the top of Jackson Hill. A bright light source is required to illuminate the spirits who will guide your way. This is a strenuous walk in the dark up the old dirt road. Shortly before you reach your final destination, you will leave the road and climb a rather steep, grassy embankment. Follow the spirits where ever they may lead. As you approach one, another should appear in the distance. Exercise extreme caution in the dark. A walking stick for support is highly recommended.

NOTE: Geocaching can be dangerous. Always exercise common sense and caution. You assume all risks associated with seeking this geocache.
