A principal aim of Geocaching, when created, was to take cachers to places of interest that they might not otherwise have known about, rather than placing a cache just for the sake of it. Over the years, this idea has, to some extent, been forgotten.
The FYI series is an attempt to turn back the clock. Each FYI cache is based around a location, maybe a natural feature, or a building, or a town centre, which is described on an Information Board or similar. While finding the information required to locate the geocache, the cacher will be finding out interesting details about where they are, increasing their knowledge of the area. I hope you enjoy the experience, and understand the concept!
The headline co-ordinates take you to a notice board close to a beautiful beach. The information is about the Noble Pen Shell which is only found in the Mediterranean Sea.
The cache can be found at N37 54.ABC W000 43.DEF
Observe the final English paragraph.
On the third row. How many letters in the 4th word? This gives you A.
On the fourth row. How many letters in the 3rd word + 1? This gives you B and F.
On the fourth row. How many letters in the 3rd word - 1? This gives you C and E.
On the fourth row. How many letters in the 4th word? This gives you D.
I hope you enjoy this FYI cache. Maybe you are here on holiday? If so, I would ask you to take this idea back home with you, and think about placing similar FYI caches yourself, for your local cachers to find and enjoy. The series was started in the UK, but I believe that this is an idea that will appeal to cachers no matter where they live. If you would like to do this, please write to the Series Owner, Airtomoreira, either via the website, or at
fyigeocaching@outlook.com. He will allocate a series number for you, and give you some general guidelines on placing your cache.
