This 30 cal ammo can is located atop the 1,928 m summit of Elbow Hill, a small bump at the corner of the confluence of the Little Elbow and Big Elbow rivers. Expect a round trip hike of just less than 10 kilometers and an elevation gain of 400 meters.
Elbow Hill from the Harold Chapman Bridge:
Probably the easiest way to get up Elbow Hill is via the SE ridge. The bushwhacking was fairly easy and the forest was nice and open in lots of spots. To get to the SE ridge, cross the Harold Chapman bridge over the Elbow River and hike or bike approximately 2.7 kilometers on the Big Elbow Trail to a flagged trail section heading up the SE ridge. This steep trail section heads up and ends almost immediately, leaving you to make your own adventure through the woods.
Resist the urge to follow faint trails - they are all game trails that don't take you where you want to go. Instead, just follow the ridge and enjoy the nice hike up through the forest. There are a couple steep sections and a couple densely forested sections, but none of that lasts very long. Once you reach the summit you should be able to enjoy some nice views - I went on a cloudy day and had no views (take some nice photos and I will add them to the page here!).
