Airdrie has a well-connected network of pathways with green spaces and biodiverse features, and one of the pathways brought us to the storm pond in Luxstone, which my boys have used as an ice rink in the winter. Airdrie has many storm ponds, but an interesting feature of this one is that there are engineered islands rich with native plants and naturally occurring bacteria which help to filter and enrich the water. These man-made islands mimic wetlands, but are constructed in such a way that the efficiency is amplified and concentrated into a smaller volume than would occur naturally. The islands provide a habitat for birds and insects, as well as promoting healthy under-water life for fish, by improving oxygen and reducing harmful bacteria.
The geocache is a small lock-and-lock type container hidden in a bush along a pathway. My kids had a hand in hiding this one, so look low! Please re-hide in a manner/location similar to found, and advise in your log if maintenance is required (container damaged, log sheet needs replacement, etc.)!
Congrats to Trefoil/Voyager for finding this 57 minutes after it was published!
