The Girl with the dragon tattoo is the first book of the international bestseller Millennium Series, written by the Swedish author and journalist Stieg Larsson.
Unfortunately, Stieg passed away at the age of 50 after submitting his novels to a publisher, so he never got to see his worldwide success. His books have sold by millions.
The plot focuses around Lisbeth Salander, a 24-year-old computer hacker with a photographic memory, a violent temper and some serious intimacy issues and Mikael Blomkvist, journalist and publisher at Millennium magazine who has just lost a libel case under murky circumstances.
The book opens with an intriguing mystery. Henrik Vanger, an octogenarian industrialist, hires Blomkvist to investigate the disappearance of his great-niece, Harriet, nearly 40 years earlier. Henrik believes she has been murdered by a member of the Vanger family and has never gotten over it.
After a nasty plot detour involving a lawyer foolish enough to try to take advantage of her, Salander teams with Blomkvist to solve the mystery of Harriet’s disappearance.
