Geocache Description:

I pass here many times and could stop myself from checking online who was this person.Imagem relacionada

Here is what I found out:

* Jan Dobry, that is the same guy of that horse statue that you probably have seen in Rynek*

Jan II of Opole ( in Polish: Jan II Dobry) (born around 1460 and died on 27 March 1532) was a Duke of Opole-Brzeg (until 1481), Duke of Strzelce-Niemodlin in 1476.

Having his brothers has co-rulers was ruler of Gliwice in 1494, Toszek in 1495, Niemodlin in 1497, Bytom in 1498, Koźle in 1509 and Racibórz in 1521.

He belonged to the silesian branch of the Polish Piast dynasty which was the oldest branch of the first Polish royal dynasty. He was born as the second son of Duke Nicholas I of Opole with his wife Agnes, daughter of Duke Louis II of Brzeg.

Jan II, the last male member of the Opole branch, died in Racibórz on 27 March 1532 and was buried in the Opole Cathedral.

Why the nickname "The Good"?

Well.. As far I could understand, during his reign, he did not led the country into war or conflicts.
He ruled in a passive way, stablishing good relations with Kraków court and buying more lands around Opole.
Always focused in making the economy grow.
