Ever heard of rain paint? It's paint that only appears when it rains.
This is a cache that will get you outdoors in the rain. And, since Vancouver has an average of 161 rain days per year, it shouldn't be too hard to find just the right day to go after this one.
In the summer of 2018 (during which there were about 24 days of rain), the City of Vancouver held an art contest to help make this rainy city more vibrant. Artists were invited to submit an idea for a rain paint stencil that would make a public space more engaging and fun on damp days.
Three locations were selected to host the winning art pieces: W 63/Yukon, Helena Gutteridge Plaza and Olympic Village. All three now have their stencils 'secretly' painted and each will begin to show up when the fall rains come (in 2017 that included 51 days). And they will continue to delight us in winter (2017: 58). And spring generally has some good rain days, too, when we could visit this cache (2017: 40).
This location hosts Loop: Sea to sky through city to sea, Part of water's course are we. Designer: Jeff Kulak Inspiration: Nickell Aktarian
This location shows how green infrastructure sustainably manages our rainwater, increases green space and creates habitat for pollinators and urban wildlife. To read more, see the description on the lamp post in the centre of this space.
If you somehow find a dry day to visit, the listed Waypoint will tell you were to find the art. Consider bringing a liter of water and pour slowly to reveal!
