Geocache Description:

A couple of recurring themes in caches in and around here are ghost stations and bluestone bridges, and this quick offset multi combines both these themes, and invites you to discover the former Navigators railway station and the only known historically listed structure in town, the nearby bluestone arched bridge.

On 10th April 1882 with great ceremony the Railway between Ballarat and Geelong was open, however with only 4 passengers on the inaugural journey perhaps the writing was already on the wall. So it was in 1956 that Mrs Clark and her daughter were the last passengers to board a train from Navigator. By the 1970’s nothing of the station or the rail service existed.

At the starting point spot for this cache, an information board provides some more information and the timeline of the station and railway line. The GZ is nearby and can be calculated but using this timeline. Simply use the last digit of the year associated with these activities.

A. Renamed to Rail Motor Stopping place 11

B. Open but no one in charge.

C. Navigators becomes Navigator.

D. Captain Andrew Clarke Surveys Route.

E. Rail Motor Service mainly for transport of secondary School students.

F. Trainline opens with only four passengers on the first train.

G. Tenders called for the construction of the Railway

H = E - F

The GZ can be found nearby at S 37° 3A.BCD' E 143° 5E.FGH'
