The Church Micro series has been running for 11 years! Thanks to Sadexploration for starting and continuing this fantastic series and also to Bashful for providing us all with statistics :)
We all love a Church Micro!
Be it a traditional, a puzzle, a letterbox, a multi and even EarthCaches; they come in all shapes and sizes and the full range of D/Ts so let's have a get together to celebrate another year of this fantastic series.
As with all meets, anyone and everyone is welcome; long-term finders, new finders, old and young and everyone in-between! There will be cachers chat, advice and puzzle help and the swapping of trackables! There is a public house next door but there are no refreshments or bathrooms available on site.
We are meeting at the ruins of the palace at Bishop's Waltham which has had a long and varied history. On-site there is a small museum which is often open at weekends and dependant on volunteers and donations.
English Heritage includes the history of the area on their website but a brief overview follows.
In the Middle Ages Bishop’s Waltham Palace was one of the finest residences of the Bishops of Winchester, who was among the richest churchmen in Europe. First built by Henry of Blois in the 12th century, the complex was remodelled and extended in the 14th and 15th centuries, becoming a palace capable of housing the king and his court on a number of occasions, as well as the bishop and his household. The palace was badly damaged in the Civil War (1642–9) and subsequently abandoned. Admiral Sir Andrew Browne Cunningham, one of Britain’s most distinguished naval commanders of modern times, lived here after the Second World War..
