Geocache Description:

On October 23, 2018, it will be 15-years since I found my first Geocache. This is as good of reason as any to get together to trade some stories.

The first Geocache I found was GC2F26 Mt. Doug on October 23, 2003.

This is my log from that cache: https://www.geocaching.com/seek/log.aspx?LUID=3c8bac56-0999-4d1e-90a2-b0d85de3f62d

My first cache. I was at this site doing some work on the "tower" and had some time to wait so I tracked this one down. Cheated a bit by looking at the spoiler ahead of time. My GPS seemed to be out a bit. I showed it 19 meters away at N48°29.465' W123°20.695'. I left 4 "AA" batteries for someone who's GPS is running low, and took a toy lizzard (I will relocate him in the Highlands near home).

On that day, I also found my first TEAM KFWB cache. GCD759 WAGES OF FEAR GEOCACHE

Over the next several years, I only found the occasional cache as an opportunity arose. I think I found 31 caches in the first 10-years (we recently found over 60 caches in one day).

It wasn’t until my long-time friend R2Sdave and I started doing some bike riding a few years back at Shawnigan Lake and finding some caches along the way did things get a bit more serious and I started caching on a regular basis.

In the last couple of years, I have had some major caching milestones. I found the original APE cache. I found the Tribute Stash plaque. I found the oldest caches on Vancouver Island, the oldest cache in BC and the oldest cache in Oregon. I found GC12, GC16 and GC17 (all in one day). I found an archived TEAM KFWB that had not been found in over 8-years. I hiked 9 km round trip up a very steep logging road with a great group of people to find a TEAM KFWB cache I did the legwork on (my projection was out a bit, but T and C made the find). I was awarded the HAG XIV FTF award with 53 FTS’s. I have lived in Victoria all my life but, as a result of Geocaching, have been to more new places in the last 2-years than I have in the last 20. I have surpassed 1,500 cache finds. I completed my 365-day streak (and still going, for now).

I have met some amazing and generous people. People that have shared their time and knowledge with me to help me along the way. People that have included me in their activities. People that have made me feel welcome.People I consider friends now.

I also need to thank my muggle wife as she has supported me, drove me, helped me, waited for me and didn’t make me feel guilty.

Let’s get together to trade some stories about when you started, what were your milestones, and what are your favorite memories and milestones.

I’ll be at the Timmies on Douglas beside the Swiss Chalet from about 4 pm to 6 pm on October 23rd (maybe we can grab some dinner next door after).
