Only "The Mask of Death" Survived Traditional Cache

Trail Reader: Since today was cool and drizzly, I figured that it was a good day to hike to the cache and check on its health. Wearing rain pants and gaiters to guard against the very real possibility of ticks, I left the trail and bushwhacked my way to GZ. Once there, I saw that beautiful spring-green poison oak grew in abundance in front of and over the hide. By making my way around the rear, I was able to see that the container was not there. I also poked around a few nearby spots, but had no luck. On the way back I thought about checking on The Mask of Death, but the grasses were higher than my waist. Even though I'm archiving the cache, I'll make a note to myself to go back in the summer or fall and retrieve it, if it's still there.

Well, this is the end of an era for both night and day hikes by The Baldwin Girls located in this wonderful area of open land. Thank you to all who visited!!!! Archive.

This is NOT a night hide.




Once upon a time there was a night cache, Shivers in the Dark!!! "A Night Hike" Returns... (GC4MGYW). Hidden by The Spirit of the Baldwin Girls, the cache thrilled the thirty-four brave souls who dared to attempt it.

Years passed... Both Baldwin Girls now lived out of the area. With no caretaker, the cache fell into disrepair.

Flash forward to today... The oldest of the Girls has returned. Hiking out to check on the cache, she was confused by the changes she found in the area:  new stands of poison oak, thistle fields, dead trees, shattered limbs, missing orbs, and, alone of all the spooky landmarks, only The Mask of Death survived.

In order to honor the night hide that once was, The Spirit of the Baldwin Girls has decided to allow all cachers to visit the site of the former final in the daylight and find a traditional cache. 

 If you would like to have a taste of the original night hide, consider visiting two additional waypoints: Glowing Orbs (located on the trail) and The Mask of Death (requires a short hike around a massive thistle field).

The cache is an ammo box containing the original night hide log with additional pages for current finders, a pen, and spooky swag treats.

Please be warned that there is poison oak along the trail, but not in the immediate area of the cache.
