Side of the road parking is best on the North and West sides of this acreage where you can gain access to the trials. To find our Treasure Chest you will be finding a total of 3 caches. The first will provide you with a treasure map to the second. Stage 2 will provide you with the coordinates to the final stage and a hint for the combination lock. Once at the final location you’re looking for a locked ammo can. BRING YOUR VERY BEST SWAG BECAUSE THIS THING IS LOADED!
Now for the long wordy part that my other half thinks is keeping everyone from hunting for our booty: Portions of the Florida peninsula have been above or below sea level at least four times in Earth’s history. You can see evidence of this in the northern part of Tallahassee, where the soil contains red clay, but south of Tampa, the soil becomes sandy. This is because coastal waves eroded the red clay and left a layer of marine sand as the sea retreated. This diversity in soil leads to diversity in ecosystems. The swamps give life to the majestic bald cypress while the sandy soil is perfect for the cabbage palm, longleaf-slash pine, southern magnolia, and the mighty southern live oak. Many of Florida's prominent features have resulted from karst, a landscape with a base layer of limestone. Because limestone is porous, freshwater gradually dissolves the rock and forms cracks and passages. The limestone layer of the state is honeycombed with underground rivers which can break through to the surface creating close to 900 freshwater springs in Florida. The many lakes, rivers, and 1,350 miles of coastline makes Florida a prime location for water activities; with over 900,000 registered recreational vessels in the state as of 2018.
Florida’s rich and diverse culture presents a unique opportunity; drive just a few hours away and feel like you’re in a whole different place. Our love of nature and camping lead us to Geocaching and these pastimes have been our respite from modern-day stressors. So come relax a bit while this multicache takes you on a journey to explore a couple of these Florida features in this small patch of "wild Florida."
