Back in 2009 I hid a cache not too far from here called Back Door that I sadly did not replace when it went missing in 2015. It was quite popular but life got in the way. This is the replacement.
Not sure if this is was 'locals only' entrance or not, but due to it's remote location I suspect it was.
Post-Covid, the park closed the back door due to vandalism, including the road, the parking lot, the bathroom, and the boardwalk from the beach area. It hasn't re-opened and I suspect it never will. So what we have here is mostly a history lesson.
It is significantly harder to get to this one now. Your best bet is to make your way from the various parking spots along the park road to trail crossing #18 (get yourself a park map) and head to trail crossing #1 and then head north. From #18, it's 1.2 miles one way. Bikes are allowed but I don't recommend it due to significate sugar sand. You could also park at the equestrian camp area near trail crossing #2 and walk the trail towards #1. Not sure how "legal" this is for non-horse folks. I've never seen the equestrian area crowded, but I'm sure it is from time to time.
Park entrance is $5/car or $4 if you are alone.
Visit the park's web site at this link to explore its offerings. Park hours are 8AM to sunset.
