Nice lollygag down a short trail at Lamberton Lake Fen. The trail is the remnants of an old berm built in the 60s. Round trip is right around a half mile. Level path, easy terrain. Out and back should take you less than 15 minutes. This fen has a river, forested areas, and shrubby wetlands that attract many colorful birds during migration. Good birding spot in the spring and fall.
This area is owned & maintained by the Land Conservancy of West Michigan. This Nature Preserve is the Land Conservancy’s most urban preserve. Despite being within the Grand Rapids city limits, the preserve protects a high-quality prairie fen, a type of wetland that is very rare in West Michigan. They support Geocaching on their lands. Trail is open from sunrise to sunset. They expect visitors to; Stay on the trails, keep pets on a leash, leave plants and wildlife in place. Enjoy the preserve. CITO any trash you may find, give back a little.
Parking Waypoint provided, at the end of Plaza Drive. Trail head is just east. Please replace the stash as you found it. Safe & secure in its protected spot. Organic 'tools' provided to retrieve it. Winter friendly with the clue provided.
