Geocache Description:


Small camoed peanut butter jar near base of tree nestled in sticks. Please do not go further into Bashore Scout Reservation without getting permission and signing in. Daytime caching only. Cache placed with permission of Pennsylvania Dutch Council Boy Scouts of America.

Joseph Johns was born in 1794 in Virginia. He was a slave but eventually escaped and settled on the mountain south of this site. He died on February 7, 1906. Between his birth and his death, he led a remarkable life. Notice Monument when you visit. Read his story here:
