THE SECRET AIR FORCE BASE

Most people don't realize what this land was used for originally. Many years ago, long before the East Bay Regional Parks even existed, this entire area was part of a large military installation called, "Five Bassos Air Force Base." It was only recently that the land was donated to East Bay Parks. For secrecy purposes, they renamed the land, "Five Canyons."

This area was once the drug store for the base. The jets would just taxi by slowly, and the pharmacist would throw the prescription to the pilot. If you were flying a helicopter, you would hover over the building, and lower a big hook to grab the package. It was a lot of fun!
