Middle Gorge Not Middle Earth Station
No you haven't stepped through the mythical world of J.R.R. Tolkien, but the outer northern suburbs of Melbourne, although at times you may be forgiven for confusing the two. There are no orcs, trolls, elves, hobbits or other fantastic creatures here. Contrary to what many people believe the station which is one of three new ones on the Mernda rail extension. It was originally going to be called Marymede due to its proximity to the nearby Catholic school, but as this went against naming regulations, and the proximity to the school with its namesake public outcry meant another had name had to be found. As the name South Morang had already been taken it was decided to name it due to its proximity to the nearby Parks Victoria location, Middle Gorge Park. Unlike the park however, the area around the new station is mostly quite flat and easy to access.
There is parking nearby on Williamsons Road or on one of the sides streets such as Grange Drive. Due to the redevelopment of the station precinct the last cache was removed along with its spot so this has been relocated to a spot that is further from the station but less likely to be developed. The area is open and is pet friendly although the surrounding area is grassy and may get muddy when it has been raining. Those familiar with geocaching should not have a problem with this one and it is also a good introductory one for people starting out.
Congratulations to trac3yy for the First To Find.
