The Wavertree Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

New York Admin: Apparently this cache was not maintained back in April as the cache owners log dated 04/12/2019 would indicate. Maintenance does not seem to be forthcoming placing me in a position where I must archive this listing.

Geocache Description:

Built in Southampton, England in 1885, the Wavertree is an iron-hulled ship named after the eponymous district of Liverpool, England. The Wavertree first sailed carrying jute from eastern India to Scotland, though shortly thereafter, she entered the 'tramp trades' carrying cargo throughout the world. In 1910, the Wavertree was dis-masted in a storm off Cape Horn and subsequently limped to the Falkland Islands. Over the next fifty years, she served as a floating warehouse in Puenta Arenas, Chile and a sand barge in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The Wavertree was 're-discovered' by an American working in Buenos Aires in 1967, acquired by the South Street Seaport Museum in 1968, and first arrived in New York City in 1969. The Wavertree was recently restored in 2016, and remains the largest iron sailing vessel afloat today.

The cache is small magnetic canister that you can collect while gazing at the port bow of the beautiful ship. There's room for small travel bugs and trinkets.
