In 1612, the Tokugawa shogunate transferred the Ginza government office (silver coin foundry) from Sumpu in Suruga (present Shizuoka City) to the present Ginza in Chuo Ward. At that time, the town was named Shinryogae-cho (new money exchange town) because the Edo Kinza (gold coin foundry) was called Ryogae-cho (money exchange town), but it was also called Ginza as a popular name. Ginza government office relocated to Kakigara-cho in 1800, but Ginza remained as a place name, and then the official name of the town became Ginza in 1869.

公開座標は、銀座発祥の地の碑を指しています。公開座標にキャッシュはありません。
慶長17年（1612年）、徳川幕府は、駿河国駿府（現在の静岡市）から現在の中央区銀座に、銀座役所（銀貨鋳造所）を移しました。当時、江戸金座（金貨鋳造所）が両替町と呼ばれていたことから、町名は新両替町と名付けられましたが、通称で銀座とも呼ばれました。寛政12年（1800年）に銀座役所は蛎殻町に移転しましたが、銀座は地名として残り、その後、明治2年（1869年）には正式に町名が銀座となりました。
