Sinnemahoning State Park Fall Gathering 2018:
The staff of Sinnemahoning State Park would like to invite cachers for an afternoon of food, fellowship and fun! This park has had a great relationship with the caching community over the years, and as we are approaching the Thanksgiving season, we wanted to take the time to say "Thanks" by hosting an event.
Sinnemahoning State Park sits on 1,910 acres of natural woodland and wetlands, straddling Potter and Cameron Counties in northcentral PA. This park is known for its scenic beauty and wildlife watching opportunities, including nesting bald eagles and a small elk herd.
The park will release four new caches on the morning of the event. Please check geocaching.com for the details of these caches. Special swag inside for the FTF.
Event includes luncheon, a program, and prizes! The event will officially start at 12:00 pm, indoors in the Wildlife Center classroom, with a covered dish luncheon at 12:00 pm. Please bring a covered dish to share, along with stories of your favorite caching adventures this season. Lunch will be followed by a special nature presentation by Mandy Marconi, environmental educator with the PA Game Commission and fellow cacher. The event will wrap up at 2:00 pm with the conclusion of the game and awarding of geocaching prizes.
Yes, there is a game! To keep the fun alive for all cachers attending, we have created a short and simple game for the day of the event. Inside each of the 24 caches in the park, a unique self-inking stamper will be placed. (Two stampers apiece for the new caches!) Using game cards created just for this event, collect 5 different stamps from 5 different park caches to complete a card. Print your cacher name on the top of the completed card and submit it for a prize drawing. Each cacher may submit up to 4 completed cards, provided that none of the stamps are duplicated. A complete set of rules and the game cards will be available inside the caches by 8:00 AM.
Don’t keep the fun to yourself – bring a “newbie”! We encourage cachers to bring a person (or two, or three) that has never cached before. This park has very family-friendly caches that would be well suited for introducing newbies to this great activity called geocaching. Most of the 24 caches located in the park are located just a few feet off of well groomed trails. The park also has loaner GPS receivers (pre-loaded with waypoints) that newbies can use for finding their first geocache!
This event is a great opportunity to meet the local caching community and share great stories!
