Zeehondjes kijken
Vanaf deze plek kun je vooral bij laag water goed zeehondjes spotten. Ze zijn vooral te vinden op de zandbanken ten zuidoosten van deze cache. Neem dus je verrekijker of telelens mee!
Het water van de Westerschelde was in de jaren 60 zo vies, dat er vrijwel geen vis meer zwom. Daarmee verdwenen ook de zeehonden. Maar de waterkwaliteit verbeterde, en in de jaren 90 zwommen de eerste zeehonden gelukkig weer de Westerschelde op. In Zeeland komen twee soorten zeehonden voor: de gewone en de grijze. De gewone zeehond is het kleinst. Mannetjes worden maximaal twee meter en heeft donkere vlekken op een grijze, donkerbruine of zwarte vacht. Een grijze zeehond kan tot drie meter lang worden. Hij heeft een rechte snuit en gescheiden neusgaten. Vooral deze grijze zeehond laat zich vanaf de cacheplek goed zien.
Tip: het allerbest zie je ze als je het pad nog zo’n 200 meter naar het oosten volgt (richting Antwerpen), maar dan heb je natuurlijk geen picknickbank om lekker op te zitten.

Seal spotting
From this place you can spot seals, especially at low tide. They are mainly found on the sandbanks southeast of this cache, so take your binoculars or telephoto lens with you to this cache!
The water of the Westerschelde was so dirty in the sixties that there was hardly any fish swimming. Hence, the seals also disappeared. But due to improved water quality in the 90s the first seals swam back up the Westerschelde. There are two types of seals in Zeeland: the common and the gray ones. The common seal is the smallest. Males are up to two meters and have dark spots on a gray, dark brown or black coat. A gray seal can be up to three meters long. He has a straight muzzle and separated nostrils. Especially this gray seal is clearly visible from the cachespot.
Tip: The best place for seal-spotting is 200 meters to the east (direction Antwerp), but then you obviously do not have a picnic bench to sit on.
