Geocache Description:

You are looking for a small camouflaged container.  Please be careful with Geokids when crossing the road to the GZ.  This could be done as a cache and dash, but there are many other local caches nearby to make a good walk around the area.

Arthur Congrave was born in 1897 and lived at 29 Wash Lane.  He worshipped at Ravenstone Parish Church and married Emma Bentley from Snibstone.  Arthur worked at Stablefords Wagon works before the war.  He was one of  the Famous 50’s 22 survivors, later working in the Lamp Room cabin at Snibstone and was then caretaker with his wife at Snibstone School.  He passed away in Coalville in 1970.

Many thanks to Woodstone Primary School for creating the images of Arthur for the Famous 50 exhibition.

Woodstone Primary School pupils created Arthur for the Famous 50 exhibition.

First 50 Heroes

The Coalville Heroes Series celebrates the first fifty volunteers from our area to take part in the Great War of 1914-18. Each geocache commemorates a real volunteer and describes his activities during the Great War. This video clip gives the background to the First 50 project: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zq4-AeN6Was
