Not sure why this lake is called Smokehouse Lake, but maybe if you close your eyes and use your imagination you can smell the smoked meats... If you come in fall or winter you'll notice the occasional remnants of the orange grove that used to be on this land back before the state bought it in 1973.
The cache is located in Lake Louisa State Park. Entrance fee is $5/car of 2+ people or $4 if you are alone. You can reach this cache by walking or horseback. I don't recommend a bike because the trails are quite sugary as you get closer to the cache. It's a mile from the nearest trail head, although there are numerous longer ways to get there. The trails are generally wide and well maintained. If you want to come by horse, check the park website about where to park before coming out.
It's just past trail intersection #49.
Grab a trail map at the main park entrance off US27 to make this easier. The park website is here. Hours are 8AM to sunset.
