A Five Year Procrastination - my true story!
2013 - I put this container in place, intending to create a Lake St. Clair Blackout Challenge. Before I got it written up, there was a temporary ban placed on challenge type caches.
2014 - I checked on the container and all was well. Thought about something more interesting than just one more paddle cache.
2015 - I checked on the container and all was well. Unable to write the type of script now required for challenge caches, I did nothing.
2016 - I checked on the container and all was well. I wondered some more about how to make it interesting.
2017 - I checked on the container and all was well. I thought of using information about the lake to make a puzzle.
2018 May - I checked on the container and all was well. Then I broke T6, resulting surgery and having to accept no more kayaking this year. The good news is that the PT promised to get me back in a kayak by 2019. With new restrictions, I'll be slower than ever, yet all is good if I can just be out on the water.
2018 October - this container has been in place for 5 years without any problems, so it's time that cachers are able to sign the log. I decided to use an old puzzle idea in a less complicated way than back in 2004.
2018 November 4 - the worst confession - 3 cachers who headed out to be FTF were unable find it. The tree in which it was hidden is dying, and apparently the branch it had been attached to for 5 years broke off. The cache may still be there, but underwater. Fortunately they had room in their water craft for me, so within 15 minutes we met at the ramp and the container was quickly replaced in the live tree at the same coordinates.
This cache will be found at N46° 59.??? W122° 42.???. (Note the 42)
How to solve for ??? and ???:
- print out the puzzle squares below - any size you can work with - or make your own copies.
- cut six separate squares.
- arrange the 6 squares into a 3 wide by 2 deep rectangle so that numbers on all adjoining edges match. (there is only one possible way)
- look at the cache page images. Place the numbers given for each image into the center of your matching squares.
- using the numbers you entered into your arranged 3x2 rectangle, you now have two possible sets of numbers for ??? and ??? by turning the rectangle 180 degrees "up or down." Decide which set will match the terrain rating and use them for ??? and ??? - your coordinates for finding the cache container.
Disclaimers:
- I have included (in cache images) a Map of Procrastination for those of you who need to learn more.
- while the photos are a bit fuzzy, they should be good enough until I can do better.
- I did not arrange the squares in any special order or direction.
