Geocache Description:

Spirit Quest - Washington Cemetery

The cache is located in the back of the cemetery it is well way from any graves.  It should be an easy find especially with the use of the hint. As with any cemetery cache please be respectful of the grounds and any possible visitors that might not understand what we are doing.  Though there are no posted hours out of respect for the cemetery and neighborhood, please limit your search to daylight hours only.

Cemetery History:
There was a previous cache in this cemetery called Hilltop Pioneers, the passage that follows is some history that the cache owner squarehead had on his cache page.  This is duplicated with his permission:  "When eighteen year old George Lamley drowned in 1895, his parents Job and Sarah laid him to rest in the orchard of their hilltop farm. After the death of her husband Sarah donated the land for community use. Originally called Riverside Cemetery, it later became known as Washington Cemetery and this lovely spot gradually became the final resting place for local pioneers. But as the years passed and a larger cemetery was developed a few miles away, it fell into neglect. Several markers toppled over, some lay under fallen trees, countless others were hidden in the undergrowth. Sadly the old wooden markers of the Lamley family and many others are gone... There are several unmarked sites, we don't know who rests in them."

On June 7th 2009 there was a CITO event held in this cemetery, where cachers did some clean up work to the cemetery.  The previous cache here asked cache seekers to spend a moment to clean up plot, and I'm going to ask you to do the same.  Certain areas of the cemetery could use a lot of clean up as that CITO was nearly 10 years ago as of this writing.  If you able to spend those few minutes, and if you cleaned up someones plot please mention their name it in your log.  When I'm there, there are two stones marked unknown in the section opposite of the road that I like to clean up.

About the cache:
On your search for the cache, you will be looking for a regular sized camoed container. Parking side of the county road which runs through the cemetery. The cache should be fairly easy to locate especially with the use of the hint.

While there are no posted hours, I ask that the cacher only search for this cache during daylight hours out of respect for the cemetery, this means no night caching. While you are here please take your time and look around, and enjoy all of the history here, but remember to be respectful, since the cemetery is still active it is possible that there could be mourners or other visitors that might not understand what we are doing. The cache is NOT located near any graves, and there is no need to walk past or even near the not trespassing sign.
