Brookstead Break
The name Brookstead comes from the word "brook" meaning water course and "sted" (Dutch) or "stadt" (German) meaning place. The nearby stream, a few km away is the Condamine River, one of the headwaters of the great Murray Darling Basin. Brookstead is surrounded by fertile soils with great water holding capacity meaning that the local farmers can grow a wide variety of crops like cotton, sorghum, wheat, chickpeas, corn and beans
I have passed through this area on the Gore Highway many times, and you can always recognise Brookstead by the large Silos which are visible well before you reach the town. Now you also have a reason to pull off the highway.
