This series is in honor of great trombone players in music history.
This cache is dedicated to the great Glenn Miller.

Glenn Miller was known as a great trombonist and a great band leader. Born March 1, 1904, Glenn started his own band in 1937, The Glenn Miller Orchestra, which still tours today, so he could be free to write arrangements to his own style and sound.
Glenn went into the Army in WWII and led an Army Jazz band there. His plane went missing over the English Channel on December 15, 1944 and was never found. His greatest hits included Moonlight Serenade, Tuxedo Junction, Little Brown Jug, String of Pearls and many, many more. A couple of his best solos are Little Brown Jug and My Blue Heaven. Many of his recordings are easily found online.
Many know of Glenn Miller from the movie made about him starring Jimmy Stewart and June Allison. While this is a great movie, it is not 100% historically accurate, with Hollywood taking liberty with some things to to make a better selling story. But the gist is there. Glenn was a great musician and bandleader.
Miller had at least two trombones, one for a backup. They were both a New York Bach Stradivarius, "Model 6 VII". A current picture of the backup reveals the serial number has been covered up by a thin metal patch around the slide receiver. Glenn Miller's name is stamped on the mouthpiece. The slide is still in excellent working order, although the slide lock is missing.
Side note: The Vincent Bach Corporation still sells trombone mouthpieces named the “The Glenn Miller Mouthpiece.”
