Geocache Description:

On this day (27 November) in 1295 the first elected representatives from Lancashire were called to Westminster by King Edward I to attend what later became known as "The Model Parliament". The Lancashire Day proclamation is now read out by town criers throughout the county on 27th November and it will be read out by a representative of Lancashire here tonight!

When? Tuesday, November 27th : 6:30pm - 9:30pm or LTL

Where? Strawbury Duck, Overshores Road, Turton, Bolton, BL7 0LU

This is the day when proud Lancastrians wear the red rose and raise a glass to the Queen for being Duke of the best place in England. Surely you've not forgotten? The Duke of Lancaster is the owner of the estates of the Duchy of Lancaster, and it is none other than Elizabeth II. Sadly she can't be with us tonight but we'll manage. So please come along wearing your Red Rose and your traditional Lancashire garb to once again celebrate how wonderful it is to go geocaching in Lancashire!

Why has the Strawbury Duck been chosen as the venue, you may ask? We've picked this pub because it is an independent 18th century Lancastrian Inn that sources much of it's food from the local area - indeed they breed their own pork in a field some 2/3 miles away in Belmont. They also serve local Lancastrian cask ale and Lancashire cheeses. They even have the old Lancastrian spelling of Strawbury in their name! The pub have suggested if you want your food served more quickly that you contact them and they will be happy to take pre-orders for food so feel free to give them a ring on the day. Otherwise, please log your will attend and note whether you plan to eat so this information can be passed back to the pub. If you don't pre-order please be aware food is freshly cooked so it may take a while if a lot of people order at the same time.

You don't have to be from Lancashire to join us for these celebrations. After all, this is a NWCMM so everyone from across the North West and from further afield is more than welcome, all geocaching events welcome all geocachers! We simply will be looking at the positive aspects of the fine county of Lancashire.

The NWCMM (North West Cachers Monthly Meet) brings geocachers together in different parts of the North West reviewing area. We welcome anyone to take a month and host an event in their area and equally welcome anyone to come along. The NWCMM's are not run by any particular group, they change each month and encourage you to get to know other cachers. If you've never been to an event before, please come along and meet people from the nearby area, and from further afield.
