Welcome to #3 of the HD JP Series. This is a series of eight caches and a final with a small award for finishers which has been published in honor of the memory of a great friend and master cacher. The first seven caches in the series will be published on the same day, so you can hunt those at will. Just to make things interesting, the last one will publish on or about December 1, so stay tuned! The eight caches are spread out over a large geographic area, so an important TOTT for this series will be your map! The list of all the caches is here: HD JP Series Caches. Be sure to collect the code word from each cache in the series; you will need those words in order to solve the puzzle for the coordinates to the final.
Here is my tribute to HD JP aka Larry - I know this is a lot to read but hang with me because I really want you to understand what a passionate, caring friend HD JP was. He was someone who loved to share his knowledge as well as learn as much as he could about this wonderful hobby/game geocaching. When you talked to him, he was so down to earth and was excited to hear about your next geocaching adventure. If you ever needed a PAF on a cache, HD JP was ready to fill those shoes. I remember not too long ago, myself and two other cachers were looking for a cache in Wise, VA. Once I realized HD JP had found it 6 months before and over 2,400 caches since then, I reached out to him. He gave perfect instructions and the smiley was ours.
One of my funniest memories of HD JP, was when he was in Utah and he was at a webcam cache and needed my help on taking his picture. He sent me the link to the cam and I pulled it up. Everything was so small on my phone and I wasn’t sure I could see him. I asked him if he was anywhere near the orange traffic cone, he said he didn’t see a traffic cone. Then all of the sudden it dawned on me. I said “Larry, are you wearing your orange shirt?” He said yes, and I just started laughing and he did too.
My only regret in having met and known Larry, is the fact that I only got to spend 4 years being his friend. Larry you are missed every day and I am so thankful I got to know you and was with you on a few of your 61,825 finds.
Now for the cache. HD JP was always available with the right TOTT (Tool of the Trade) so be prepared to look through the tools in search of the log to sign and don’t forget to look for the code word at the top of the log. Happy Caching!
If you need a tool, then feel free to take one but be prepared to leave a tool. Please be sure to place the cache back so it isn't visible as there are muggles, especially during softball season.
