Geocache Description:

This cache is SirJ-Oz's twenty-first cache. A traditional that shouldn't be too hard.

Hughesdale Interchange - Redux

This cache is a tribute to my Hughesdale Interchange Time-Table cache that was trashed when Skyrail came stomping through.

The Hughesdale Interchange (a term that I made up), is where the Cranboune / Packenham train line connects with the 767 Bus.

However, from 1890 until 1893, the area was also the junction of three rail lines; the Dandenong Railway (1879 - still active), the Outer Circle Railway (1890 - 1893), and the Rosstown Railway (1875 - 1916)

Hughesdale railway station

Hughesdale is a railway station in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia.

In 2016 the Level Crossing Removal Authority announced a grade separation project (a.k.a Skyrail) to replace the Poath Road level crossing immediately to the west of the old station. The railway station was closed on 14 October 2017 and demolished on 28 October 2017.

A new Hughesdale railway station opened on 25 August 2018 about 250 metres west of the old station, as part of construction of the new section of elevated rail between Caulfield railway station and Oakleigh railway station.

Since the re-location of the station, the station is located in the suburb of Murrumbeena (not in Hughesdale) on the Pakenham railway line and Cranbourne railway line. Hughesdale station is mostly unmanned (except it is staffed in the morning peak) and is in Zones 1+2.

Hughesdale station is located above the western end of Poath Road. Escalators, stairs and elevators provide station access.
The station consists of two platforms, in an island format, raised above the street level. Parking for the rail station has approximately 70 spaces.

The original Hughesdale station opened on 28 February 1925. The station and suburb were named in honour of James Vincent Hughes, mayor of Oakleigh from 1924 to 1925 who, with the Poath Road Railway Station League, lobbied heavily for a new station for the area. In 1924 the League suggested the station be called "Hugheston", but in February 1925, shortly before the station opened, Victorian Railways decided its name would be "Hughesdale". Hughesdale was once the junction for the Outer Circle and Rosstown railway lines.

Logging Etiquette: Geocache hiders sometimes go through a great deal of planning to place their caches. As a result, they'd like to hear your feedback on whether you liked or disliked any aspect of the hide, or if you feel that some cache maintenance is required. Single word, acronym, or emoticon logs may be easier when you have a lot of caches to log, but it doesn't tell the hider or other finders anything about your adventure (or lack thereof) in finding the cache. Please keep this in mind when entering your log.
